The 10th earl's body was discovered earlier last month

The 28-year-old 11th Earl of Shaftesbury - whose father was found dead in
France last month - has died from a suspected heart attack.

Anthony Ashley-Cooper died in New York on Sunday, Sussex Police said.

The body of his father, the 10th Earl of Shaftesbury and also called Anthony
Ashley-Cooper, was found last month.

The 66-year-old earl, who had homes in Sussex and London but spent much of
his time in France, went missing in the French Riviera on 6 November.

I can imagine only too well the agonising pain the young Lord Shaftesbury's
family must now be suffering - what a truly terrible family tragedy.

Does the UK still have those horrendous death duties ? Will two lots have to
be paid to add to the misery? Regards P. Nunn-Smith.

In a slightly different form, but yes. I don't know how well off the family
remains because the 10th earl got through an *awful* lot of money spent on
wine, women and gambling, apparently. The other thing is that it's just
possible that the 11th Earl hadn't yet made a will, thus dying intestate and
adding greatly to the complications.
